On why it is important to become overwhelmed

Exalted. About objects, concepts and processes, people and places. The first four are fields that i haven't explored as much, partly because of what my eyes are trained to see, and what my mind is more apt to analyze as a result of what i do for a living.

Fascination about places though, begins separately from individual knowledge of a given space. It is widely believed that there exists a "genius loki", unique to each place that defines it in every aspect.

What is it, however, that pushes an individual towards acceptance and acknowledgment of a p
lace? It is certainly a notion defined by social, personal and visual aspects, as well as climatic and ambiance factors. It is, in a broader sense, a matter of aesthetics.

For some people, it is about ornaments, color, structure, the feeling of familiarity, or even the sense of security. For me, it has always been about what inspires greatness in the viewer. What makes a person's attention switch from an infinite combination of details, to the general picture -to what a space represents, or even feels like.

It is worth noticing how many things pass unnoticeable right beside us, especially in a densely constructed urban environment. If one is comfortably sitting on a bus which is driving by a flamboyant monument, it is almost certain that he would never notice the small inscription on a nearby building that is nothing but a supporting actor in this magnificent scenery.

Monumentality steals the glory of the little details? Or are these exact details that enhance the monuments nature?

The Eiffel tower surely looked as breathtaking without all the little kiosks that exist nearby today. However, having the ability to stick out of a "building crowd", not simply because of superior height, but because of a superior message that has to resonate, is a quality that both individual buildings and more complex ensembles, definitely posses.

It isn't necessary to perceive a place in a certain way in order for it to be forever engraved in one's memory and actively participate in his future dreams, whether this is a rural landscape, an urban scenery, an inside orchestrated space or a simple object.

It is however essential to identify our separate memories of a place or an object that makes it unique to us. It is necessary to transform everyday glimpses of the reality that surrounds us, into subjective interpretations that have the power to overwhelm us.
